BeerSox Around Town May 2013 May 9, 2013

2013 has been a busy year for BeerSox! Many events, brewery tours, and festivals already under our belts already!

May is a month of family and friends, and working on the back end of The Caged Yarn and BeerSox websites.

We may do some weekday pint nights this month, and I’ll let you know through my twitter feed where to find us during American Craft Beer Week (May 14-18)!

We won’t be setting up any booths, but I always have a small to medium supply of BeerSox and BeerSox for Stemware on hand, so don’t be shy, come up and say HI!

James Katie

Our weekends will be spent with family and friends, in town and out of town.

In June, we’ll be back at the brewery tour scene, so keep your eyes and ears open!

As always, you can order BeerSox through and I’ll send them out ASAP!

Feature Article! February 27, 2013

This past Saturday, yours truly had the honor of being on the front page of the Houston Chronicle Business Section!!!!!!!

This was an honor. A true honor to be recognized in this way. I honestly never saw myself as being front page news. But it’s made me realize just how far this has come!

Here’s a link to Ronnie Crocker’s blog post about the article.  It also has a link to the full article in it.

How awesome is that?!

In response to the traffic I’ve gotten since then, I’m testing out a couple of new shop applications to try to get things to run a bit smoother up in here. I fear that the traffic has pointed out some bottlenecks on your end and would prefer a much smoother buyer experience.

This may mean that I begin hosting my shop outside of wordpress and my website.

Look out for an update on where I’ll be around town in March and a couple of dates to look forward to in April!

So I’ve decided that you get awesome cards specialized with your own coupon code up to 8 letters!

Referral Cards memo

This coupon code isn’t just for card referrals, but for your website, for anywhere.

It gets the referee 15% off their purchase

And you get to reap some rewards, too!

First 10 BeerSox sold from referrals = 1 BeerSox teeshirt for you

Each additional 10 BeerSox sold from referrals = 1 BeerSox for you

It works for you, it works for me! I’ll be keeping track each time an order comes in with your coupon code!

Double Rainbow Dyeing February 4, 2013

It’s rare that I have a chance to just dye some fun yarn for a personal project, or really work on a personal knitting project. But I have a niece or nephew arriving in a few months, so I wanted to kick it off to a good start by dyeing a great bulky superwash wool in bright, fun kiddo colors!

I took out all of the dye I had ready to go and started coming up with a plan. After taking inventory of my colors, I knew I wanted a rainbow!

I didn’t want pastel baby colors, I wanted a rich, saturated, true visible spectrum rainbow. Something that would capture any child’s imagination.

I started off by dyeing the three primary colors on 1/6 of the skein each, with some undyed space between.

Then I started filling in the secondaries of green and orange. My purple was not purple. It was navy. And I realized this about 2 seconds before I was bout to put the yarn in the dye bath. Since I hate wasting dye, I threw in a spare skein of BeerSox yarn to soak up the mistaken navy and it made a great denim-y skein. I mixed up a fresh batch of purple by mixing the iris with magenta to get a great warm yet vibrant purple for the last secondary color. The small overlaps in color allowed for some tertiary color sections.

I loved that I could dye all 5 skeins at once with my little kettle dyeing method. They’re not exactly alike, but they’ll all work great as a whole!

Dripping and then drying them is necessary in Houston!

To get wonderfully fun yarn that makes me smile every time!
